CHAPTER ONE – THE BRIEFING

It was 5 a.m., and Captain Tenant was already wide awake. He saw an alert message on his computer: “All infantry personnel report to the SOLDIER JET INJECTION DEBRIEF ROOM for assignment manifest.” He immediately got up and headed to the debriefing room.

As he walked through the hallways of GFE headquarters, Captain Tenant couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement. Based on his current OMPF, he knew he was ready for whatever mission the GFE had in store for him.

As he entered the debriefing room, Captain Tenant was pulled aside by the Director of Armanent, the attractive but authoritative figure of Director Elara Sykes. She whispered, “Captain Tenant, I have a special mission for you and your team.”

“What kind of mission?” asked Captain Tenant.

“A retrieval mission,” replied Director Sykes. “We need to retrieve the Spirit Crystal from its current holder before it falls into the wrong hands.”

“The Spirit Crystal? But that’s just a legend.” Captain Tenant was skeptical.

“I assure you, it is not just a myth,” said Director Sykes. “I’ve assembled a team of our best operatives, and you’ll lead them.” She pointed to the Smartboard that displayed the team composition, which outlined each team member’s role:

Commanding Officer – Captain Tenant will be the CO due to his field officer experience and deep understanding of military strategies and tactics.

Captain Tenant then sat down with the rest of the team, and Director Sykes addressed the team with the mission briefing, “Let me introduce you to Captain Tenant. As you can see on the Smartboard, he’ll lead the team.” Captain Tenant waved his hand in acknowledgment, and the team gave him a nod.

Director Sykes continued, “You’ll embark on a retrieval mission to retrieve the Spirit Crystal, an ancestral artifact of immeasurable power that can unite galaxies in the right hands and bring destruction on an unimaginable scale in the wrong hands. The Spirit Crystal has the power to control time, space, and reality itself. We must retrieve it before it can be activated and used for malicious purposes. We have a lead based on our intel from the Base Commander of Star Planet Guzorra. There’s a skeleton key at a Sci-Tech facility in Austria that should lead us to the Spirit Crystal. Our first objective is to infiltrate Exointelligence Now and retrieve the skeleton key. They do R&D of Alienware AI, codename Quantum Echo Lab, QEL for short. It is secluded in the mountainous terrains of Austria, so we’ll need to use the humveecopter. QEL is at the forefront of integrating alien technology with human-made systems to develop unprecedented military capabilities.”

Once again, she directed everyone’s attention to the Smartboard, which outlined what QEL does and the ethical, political, and security implications:

Exointelligence Now

Advanced AI-driven Weapons Systems
QEL utilizes AI algorithms derived from or inspired by extraterrestrial intelligence to create weapons systems with enhanced decision-making capabilities, reaction times, and strategic planning far beyond human technology.

Autonomous Combat Drones
These drones and unmanned vehicles, both terrestrial and spaceborne, are equipped with Alienware AI that would operate autonomously and efficiently, unmatched by contemporary Earth-based technology.

Defensive Countermeasures
In addition to offensive capabilities, Alienware AI is in testing to revolutionize defensive systems, offering predictive analytics to preempt attacks or innovative shielding technologies based on alien materials science.

Cyber Warfare Enhancements
QEL is already using alien-inspired AI to create new dimensions in cyber warfare, including AI algorithms capable of penetrating, defending, or even predicting cyber attacks beyond current human capabilities.

Space Warfare Technologies
Given the technology’s extraterrestrial origin, a significant portion of R&D focuses on space warfare, developing systems designed for combat and defense in the unique conditions of space.

Ethical, Political, and Security Implications

The existence of such a facility, especially one focused on the weaponization of alien technology, would undoubtedly raise significant ethical, political, and security concerns:

  • Ethical Concerns: Using advanced AI in warfare raises profound ethical questions, particularly concerning autonomous weapons systems and the potential for AI decisions in life-or-death situations.
  • Global Security: A single planet or entity possessing such advanced technologies could dramatically shift the balance of power, potentially leading to an arms race or destabilizing galactic relations.
  • Control and Oversight: Ensuring such powerful technologies are kept under responsible control and used ethically would be a monumental challenge, necessitating robust oversight mechanisms.
  • Transparency vs. Secrecy: Balancing the need for secrecy in national security with the public’s right to know and the global community’s stake in such transformative technologies would be a contentious issue.

Director Sykes concluded, “QEL is heavily fortified and equipped with AI Masterchip Hardware to execute advanced weaponry, so keep your heads on a swivel and think smart. After retrieving the Spirit Crystal, we are ordered to destroy QEL. This mission is PRIORITY ONE for the U.S. Colony Brigade (USCB). Any questions?” Captain Tenant spoke up, “No questions, ma’am. Team, speak up now or forever hold your peace.” Without hesitation, they all responded in unison, “No questions, Director.” With that said, Director Sykes looked at Captain Tenant and facetiously said before leaving the room, “Now that you know the mission and have met your team, can you handle it?” Captain Tenant smirked as to say, “Are you kidding me?”

Later that night, the team joined at the Whiskey Shot, just a bit out of town. Let’s drop in.

Captain Tenant stood tall and straight, his eyes scanning each team member as he listened to their chatter. They were having a good time—just another day, just another beer.

Captain Tenant cleared his throat and addressed the team with a toast, “If the ocean was beer and I was a duck, I’d swim to the bottom and drink my way up. But the ocean’s not beer, and I’m not a duck. So raise your glasses to the team and drink up. Seriously, this mission won’t be easy; we all know that. But I have complete faith in every one of you. We have trained for this, and we are prepared. Our success depends on our coordination and efficiency.”

With experience as a field officer, Captain Tenant knows how to remain calm under pressure. He knows the importance of keeping his team focused and motivated, especially on high-risk missions like this one. At the same time, he knows how to keep them loose.

Over the next two months of training, he will learn their personalities, quirks, and what pushes their buttons. He’ll know when to push them harder and when to give them a break. Most importantly, he’ll know he can trust his team members with their designated roles.

He looked at Nate Stone, the tech specialist, and nodded. “I have full confidence in your abilities to help us retrieve the skeleton key, Nate. I know you can hack any security.” Nate grinned back, then declared his confidence with a wrap, “I’ll get you in and out without a shout. Over and out!”

Next, he turned to Ava Knight, the weapons expert. “Ava, I can’t wait to see you in action with the new alien tech we’ve acquired,” Ava smirked and gave a thumbs up. She was excited to test out her skills and execute her tradecraft.

Luna Shadow, the stealth operative, gave Tenant a quick salute. “I’ll make sure we go undetected and come out with the Spirit Crystal before anyone knows what hit them.” Her confidence was contagious as she flashed a mischievous smile.

Lastly, Captain Tenant looked at Maxine Jones, the medic. “Max, I trust you to keep us alive and healthy out there.” Max gave a small smile and nodded. She knew her role was just as crucial as the rest of the team’s.

This was the team’s last night before undergoing two months of rigorous training.

Most of the team has been on at least three missions. Stealth Operative: Luna’s been on four. Can you blame her? She’s the best at what she does. But this mission would be a whole new level of danger and difficulty. Nate’s been on four, too. Ava’s been on three. Captain Tenant’s been on six. Max, this will be her first field experience, but her skills in advanced medicine, quick thinking, and resourcefulness in high-risk medical situations are a win for any team.

CHAPTER TWO – LET’S GET THIS PARTY STARTED

Two months later

The mission was simple: infiltrate QEL, retrieve the Spirit Crystal, and escape alive. But as they say, no plan survives without having contact with the enemy, and this mission was no different. Listen to Captain Tenant as he explains the plan with authority and confidence.

THE PLAN:

We’ll execute our plan once we’re in two klicks of QEL.

Phase 1: Infiltration

Luna will take Nate and silently infiltrate QEL. Nate will disable the surveillance and security systems. Luna will utilize cloaking devices to remain undetected. Once inside, Ava and I will follow and secure the perimeter.

Phase 2: Retrieval

Nate will sleuth for a clue to the location of the skeleton key and disable any remaining security measures. Ava will neutralize potential threats as we approach the Spirit Crystal’s location, and Luna will keep us covered and undetected.

Phase 3: Extraction

Upon securing the Spirit Crystal, we will coordinate exfil. Max will ensure our exit path remains clear while being readily alert to provide medical care. Our exfil plan involves using the aerial stealth humveecopter camouflaged covertly within two clicks from QEL. We’ll use smoke grenades and EMPs to cover our exfil, ensuring we leave no trace of our presence. The humveecopter will remain in low-power mode to avoid detection and will power up only upon our arrival. Once onboard, Luna will pilot us out of the area using the stealth cloaking shield. We’ll rendezvous at Alpha Lima Delta Area 5 at 02 hundred hours, where the Stratolifter Bomber will extract us.

Nate raised his hand and yelled, “So that’s the plan? No Plan B?”

Captain Tenant replied firmly, “NO. We improvise, adapt, and stay on mission. Trust in yourselves and trust in each other. We’ve got this. Just remember where the rendezvous point is, and heaven forbid if we’re compromised or have to abort, remember where the fallback point is.” The team nodded and raised their glasses once again.

As they finished their drinks and went to bed, they knew tomorrow would be a new adventure. They were ready for it, mentally and physically. They were prepared for any challenges that may come their way. And they had each other’s backs.

The next morning, the team loaded up in their stealth humveecopter and set off towards QEL.

AND THE MISSION BEGINS

Phase 1: Infiltration

As they approached QEL, Captain Tenant could feel his heart racing. This was it—the moment of truth. He planned to have Luna take Nate and silently infiltrate QEL. Nate would disable the surveillance and security systems, and Luna would utilize cloaking devices to remain undetected. Once inside, Captain Tenant and Ava would follow and secure the perimeter. However, things didn’t go as smoothly as planned. When Nate disabled the security systems as they entered QEL, they encountered a group of guards who ambushed them.

The team quickly reacted. Ava’s swift, acrobatic movements, and accurate lethal weaponry took out most of the guards, while Luna used her stealth skills to remove the remaining undetected. They secured the perimeter without any casualties.

Phase 2: Retrieval

They located the main office, where Captain Tenant thought they could find a clue about where the skeleton key would be hidden. While passing the office door nameplates, Captain Tenant noticed the name Jonathan Blackwell: a prominent figure from his past years. “Is he the mastermind behind all of this?” Captain Tenant murmured to himself. Blackwell was Major General Blackwell until he went AWOL and rogue. Tenant was once assigned to one of Major General’s sanctioned covert operations. That operation went wrong, and Tenant’s entire team was killed. There was no time for thoughts; Captain Tenant had to focus.

Jonathan Blackwell was now the Chief Operation Officer for QEL. His office should have clues about where the skeleton key would be hidden. Captain Tenant picked the lock on Blackwell’s door. Nate followed right behind him as he opened the door and headed toward the computer, where he thought he might find clues to the whereabouts of the skeleton key. The computer was locked, so he used his real-time intelligence from his AI unit, Sammy3, to hack it. Just as Nate hacked the computer, alarms sounded, and their presence had been detected. Reinforcements were approaching, making xfil time-sensitive.

Knowing this, Luna watched for potential threats while Ava quickly disabled the remaining security measures. They all got away before reinforcements arrived, except for Nate. He was still trying to find information on the computer.

The skeleton key isn’t what you think. It’s a skeleton and crossbones virtual key.

While hacking Blackwell’s computer, Nate spotted a small skeleton and crossbones icon at the bottom right of the screen. It reminded him of that movie he saw with Sandra Bullock. She was a hacker. Nate clicked on the small skeleton and crossbones icon, and a passcode screen appeared. The passcode was no match for Sammy3. Nate accessed it easily and discovered a secret email box.

While all the chaos was happening, Nate found an email showing Blackwell was the mastermind behind the plan to use the Spirit Crystal as a weapon. The email included a file Nate uploaded to his RetinaScann implant and quickly joined the rest of the team.
